Western Digital has a heart for Mac owners

When it comes to additional storage for your precious data, surely the name Western Digital would have come across your mind. Well, Mac users might have had their brush with the Western Digital range in the past, but those never really jived in terms of design with what Apple offers. Not anymore though, as Western Digital’s latest generation of the popular My Book Studio external hard drives were specially designed to be aesthetically compatible with Mac computers and Apple Time Machine.

Heck, there is even a 3TB capacity model in the pipeline, where the new design will sport a brushed aluminum casing that matches the appearance of a Mac computer. Not only that, the aluminum case is used for more than its beauty – it will also do its part to keep the drive running cool when in use. Needless to say, Western Digital will promote the use of its own Caviar Green drives within, partly because it does away with the need for an internal fan, further reducing noise levels while extending the life of the drive.

Skype 5.2 update for Mac offers group screen sharing

Sharing is caring, or so they say. Skype, the VoIP giant that was purchased by Microsoft, has not missed out on that particular adage, hence leading up to Skype 5.2 update for Mac which will deliver group screen sharing – something its predecessor failed to deliver. This new update would mean group communication being made easier than ever before, since you can share your display during a group video call. This is the perfect situation whenever you have something to troubleshoot, and since a picture is worth a thousand words, doing so over the screen is easier than combing through lines of fix-it text.

It must be noted that this is a spin-off of what has been available for some time already – screen sharing within a one-to-one Skype call. Apart from troubleshooting, there are numerous other reasons on why group screen sharing is cool – imagine making a document presentation to colleagues who are separated by thousands of miles, or to share holiday photos with friends and family?

ModernWarfare3.com Leads Browsers To Battlefield 3 Website

With the military shooter battle between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 shaping up to be one of the most intense rivalries in video game history, we’ve been waiting for more shots to be fired between the soon-to-be-warring factions. Consider this the latest escalation

Aggregame points out the rather surprising news that ModernWarfare3.com, a domain you’d assume Activision would have purchased years ago, currently redirects visitors to the Battlefield 3 website. This redirect just went into place yesterday, but the ModernWarfare3.com domain was registered via GoDaddy in 2009.

Some have speculated that EA itself is behind this bold move, but the more likely scenario is that some devoted Battlefield fans (or devoted Activision haters) registered the domain before Activision thought of it and just now

put this into place as a blow against the publisher.

If that’s not enough goofiness for you, ModernWarfare4.com was also registered by someone other than Activision. The devoted PC gamer who picked up this domain is angry at Activision for removing dedicated servers from Modern Warfare 2 and is currently running a poll to help figure out what to do with the domain that the publisher would presumably eventually want to use.

The lesson? Publishers, get those domains registered early and often, even if it means rumor stories running on all of the blogs.

Rumor: Xbox 360 Games Could Run On Windows 8 PCs

You see that big “Rumor” tag in the headline. Good; keep that in mind as you read this story, because this one could be too good to be true. A persistent batch of rumors from the tech world suggest that Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 operating system will allow users to play Xbox 360 games on their computers.

Teknylate reports from an unrevealed source that if you have Windows 8 installed on your PC, you’ll be able to pop Xbox 360 discs directly into your computer tower and load them up as though it were a console. Supposedly gamers will also be able to access their Xbox 360 dashboard and Xbox Live services on PC.

The rumor suggests that players will need to pay a fee to unlock this feature on Windows 8, although its unclear if this just means subscribing to Xbox Live Gold or paying on top of that subscription. It’s important to remember that this is all rumor and speculation at this point, but various similar rumors have been circulating for several months now.

Microsoft has yet to announce an official release date for Windows 8, but the company is expected to continue unveiling features for the operating system in the next few months. Hopefully that means we’ll know one way or another whether this rumor is legitimate soon.
